In our 2-Part Phuket Travel Stories, we mentioned on the amazing time we had at our youth hostel while in Phuket. Truth be told, we have never stayed in such lively vibe.
Introduction
Lub d Phuket Patong is located just a super short walk from Patong Beach and within the proximity of the (night) life of Phuket, the Bangla Road.
It’s a youth hostel that screams Y-O-U-T-H !
Lub d has a few other properties in Bangkok and Koh Samui as well as Siem Reap, Cambodia and recently in opened one in the Philippines.
Why hostel?
We came to Phuket in a group of 6 guys and a married couple. Although we initially imagined that we would book a villa somewhere, it seemed that he villas we found were (either) pricey, located very far up the hill that we can’t save on transportation, or too family-oriented.
Our main aim was to have some fun away from work, so we finally came to senses that we need something playful and flexible.
A place that will make us forget that we are at the end of our Twenties.
Finding Lub d Phuket Patong
We found this hostel via Booking.com by chance, as none of us knew about it before. It’s undeniable that the pictures shown of the property in the website were alluring.
One thing about Booking.com is that, after using it for many years now, it’s easy to spot and distinguish a great property from the trashy ones. The published images tell a lot about how well the owners invest on the property.
Rating and Reviews
Lub d Phuket Patong scored 9.0 with its highest attribute placed on the facilities offered. Everyone’s happy with its location! We did too.
The reviews are generally great and the negatives were all very minor and can be overlooked.
Overall Concept
Lub d Phuket Patong resonates the beauty of Greek islands with its use of white and blue colour combination. This is carried through from exterior to interior and to its furnitures and retrofits.
The Dormitory with Shared Bathroom
Us 6 single guys stayed in the dorms. Each dorm fits 4 people and they aren’t bunk beds, but solid decks, probably concrete with solid steps detached from the bed, presented in the style of white steps in Santorini, Greece.
The plus point of having solid platforms as bed with detached solid steps is that, the bed won’t shake or make noise when person on the upper bunk climbs on. Genius!
Each bed has their own lights, USB port and blinds. Towels and blanket provided. Room is air-conditioned and also have a small 3-feet wide balcony. Each bed has their own storage space.
The shared bathroom is super clean and large. Literally like toilets at fancy malls.
Our booking for one bed costed around THB 415 per night.
Private Room with Bathroom
The rooms are not only shared dorms. They also have private rooms. The married couple in our entourage opted for private room with twin bed.
This room also has its own balcony and flatscreen TV. Toilet door is a sliding panel with no locks. Pretty sweet for a couple!
Common Areas and Facilities
This is where the hostel scored for me. They really nailed it from the moment we stepped in the lobby.
Right there, was a full-size Muay Thai boxing ring! No kidding!
The lobby is simple. Check-in desks are minimal, blurring the lines between hosts and guests. There are a few cushions for sitting and a couple of computers for guests to use without additional charges.
Besides the Muay Thai ring, here is where you can play air hockey and ping pong. Beyond this point is the open gym with its punching bags and the swimming pool.
Cafe
The whole stretch of the swimming pool is adjacent to the cafe. This cafe is another social offering from Lub d Phuket Patong.
The drinks are a bit costly as compared to buying from the nearby convenience stores such as Family Mart and 7-Eleven. However, they do have some fierce snacks and fried vege rolls out of the variety of food they have on their menu.
You can also just sit here, watch the swimming pool or play snooker or foosball and socialise.
Activities
What’s a youth hostel without some awesome social activities? Lub d Phuket Patong has all these in their pocket.
They host different activities everyday. You can join in their Thai language classes, Muay Thai training and by evenings, they will pump up the music and host beer pong, giant Jenga blocks and karaoke!
Summary
In short, we are really happy with Lub d Phuket Patong. On top of all these lovely features they offer, it was most important to know that the hostel indeed provide great customer service and excellent cleanliness throughout.
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
