A major difference between this weekend trip and the last one we had in Phnom Penh is that we agreed that we had to spend some time to arrange our itinerary prior to the trip so that we can make use of our 24-hours wisely.

Brunch at Toby’s Estate

Based on our research, we decided to have our brunch in Robertson Quay’s at Toby’s Estate; a renowned coffee chain from Australia. It was a Sunday so we had to be seated outside and we noticed most of the customers were expats. We just love people-watching during our travels, don’t we?

While the food was nothing out of the unusual to my taste buds, they do serve good coffee which in this case it’s the same everywhere! (Debatable topic).

Library@Orchard

We unleashed “hipster” side at the Library@Orchard located on the 3rd and 4th floor of Orchard Gateway mall. In order to get to this library, you may stop at Somerset MRT station. This two-stories library has a strong focus on design apart from housing more than 40,000 design-related books for the public. Look at those sexy curves on the bookshelves.

The best thing about this library is how accommodating the common areas are for visitors to indulge in their readings. They even have this huge space with timber flooring to form a mini courtyard surrounded by books.

Overall the library is totally worthy of Instagram and yes do it for the ‘gram by snapping as much of photos you can here. Perhaps they might not let the public in without any membership of the library in the future, who knows?

The Great Madras

We decided for a late lunch pit stop at The Great Madras located in Little India.

We found out about this boutique hotel online, and contemplated on staying here but our budget was tight. However, we noticed that they have their own cafe.

Everything about the hotel’s image is on point. The lobby itself was just enough to amaze us. Will definitely stay there in the future!

By the way, the cafe screams Catalan food. Sir Cheapskate was the happier one since he’s obsessed about Spain, Cataluña and the Basque. All things Spain. Ole!

Detour: Ice Cream

I had a huge craving for this as I always, without fail, must get this ice cream whenever I am in Singapore. So this trip makes it the third time I’m in Singapore. Haha. You can see these uncles with their ice cream bikes parked all over the city centre and not to mention that it is dead cheap. Once that craving is satisfied, we were able to leave for the airport to depart back to Kuala Lumpur.

Overall, this trip has been quite fruitful considering that we have a limited amount of time to spare.

But all I can say is, those who says “You can’t go or do anything during your travel within 24 hours” are WRONG. Clearly, we Average Joes (and Plain Janes) are able to do it successfully, so why can’t you?

Most importantly, you can’t say NO to something you haven’t tried.

Thanks to our entourage. We also documented our trip on Instagram via #the4murtabaks

Till next post!
